The Recipe Boxes

When I was little I spent quite a bit of time with my Grandmother Eva. She was fantastic in every way! When I would go to her house after school I would make a beeline to the garage fridge. It was filled with full size candy bars and all the soda's you could image. Plus, it was Grandma's house and I think we all know, rules don't apply at Grandma's!!

I would grab a candy bar, something to drink, and head back inside. Depending on the day I would either sit in the kitchen while my grandma cooked, go outside while she worked in her garden, or the childhood tradition veg out in front of the TV. The times I would enjoy most were the times I spent watching her cook in the kitchen. She always made the most amazing foods, especially her desserts! Even now there is not much I wouldn't give to sit with her and enjoy a piece of pie or one of her classic sugar cookies.

The older I get the more I wish I had one more day with her. I wish I would have set up a video camera and recorded her, talking, cooking, and just being together. Although she was quiet, when she spoke we listened! In fact, whenever I hear the expression, "walk softly and carry a big stick," I think of her.

Over the years we have talked about how much we miss her cooking, so in true form, I decided to do something about it. When I was home for Christmas I took photos of every recipe in my grandma's recipe box as well as my parent's recipe box. I decided I would cook my way through their recipes. Posting them on my blog so that they can be enjoyed and shared through the digital world. With my Grandma's recipes, it would also allow my entire family to not only enjoy them but to share them as well with their family and friends.

Having these recipes live on makes my heart happy and cooking them, especially my grandma's helps to keep my connection to her! For me, food is the best way to bring back a memory! I hope you enjoy them and if you are looking for specific recipes from my grandma, you can search for Eva's Recipe Box on the site.

Enjoy!
