If you are looking for one of the most unique and completely crave-able donuts that you have EVER had, then look no further than Tasty Patry in Clay Center, KS! This small Kansas town is filled with big flavors but none quite like their world-famous Nut Rolls. Frequently shipped all over the world to satisfy the irreplaceable taste these nut rolls are a must for many and even more at any family gathering.
The bakery has been in its current location since the 1920s, so you know in well over 100 years they have beyond mastered what they do. Even though the bakery has changed hands a few times, the essence and recipes always have remained the same. Every time I enter the Tasty Pastry I am transported to the days when I was little, I would go to the donut shop in the morning with my dad. I remember when I was little, trying to choose that one donut amongst what seemed like 100 choices that would be the perfect treat for the morning.
You will always find large groups at the Tasty Pastry chatting about the comings and goings of town as they sip their morning coffee and enjoy their donuts. I am sure much of what is going on in town is discussed here. As you approach the counter, the amazing staff greets you with a cheery smile as they await your order. Maple bars, Cinnamon Twists, Butterflies, Apple Fritters, Nut Rolls, and more sit gleaming from the case! As you make your choices, a usual question for us is with our selections, "Would you like that filled?" The decision is yours, are you going to level up what is already amazing with various jelly filling options or cream filled? Always a tough choice, but I promise you can never go wrong.
For those looking for lunch, you can also find that Tasty Pastry is a great spot for that as well. Classic hamburgers and sandwiches for a quick bite and perfect if you are coming to town to enjoy the variety of festivals, the Zoo, or the Mural Movement Clay Center.
