It seems so right to have a big batch of Grandma's sugar cookies during the holidays, especially at Christmas. My grandma always had container after container of her sugar cookies ready for us all during the holidays.

It seems so right to have a big batch of sugar cookies during the holidays, especially at Christmas. My grandma always had container after container of sugar cookies ready for us during the holidays. She could barely pull them out of the freezer fast enough.

Some might have noticed that there is already one sugar cookie recipe on the blog titled Grandma Eva's Sugar Cookie recipe, so you might be wondering why I am posting another one. Well, truth be told, my grandma had at least two recipes for many things, and this just happens to be one of them.

Both sugar cookie recipes are awesome and beloved by our family, but this one is a little easier since you are only dealing with shortening, so there is no waiting for your butter to soften! A couple of important things that are the same as the other recipe, make sure you cream together your shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla well. I let this part go for several minutes; rushing this part will not give as much air into your cookies.

The other super important thing is allowing the dough to chill in the fridge. The dough needs to chill for a minimum of a couple of hours, but it is even better if it is overnight. I have even frozen the dough in sections and pulled it out as needed. Just make sure to give the dough plenty of time to thaw so that when you roll it out, it does not break apart.

I hope your friends and family enjoy them as much as we do. Whenever I grab one, I am instantly taken back to my grandma's home, then flooded with all the memories of our family's holidays.

Enjoy, and from my family to yours, happiest of holidays, and may you find joy and peace in all things.
