Growing up in Western Kansas, Pat's Beef Jerky has been a staple of our community for as long as I can remember. For many of us, after we went off to college, it also became a must in our care packages! Pat's Beef Jerky began when Pat Carver started making beef jerky in his 30s. Pat, who worked for the city of Hays at the time, would share his homemade jerky with friends and family until he knew that he got his original recipe just right! Pat realized how people enjoyed his jerky and felt this could be a business.

Pat decided to open his jerky shop in Liebenthal, Kansas, where he grew up. He would spend hours and hours making jerky and many nights he would sleep in the shop in Liebenthal versus driving home to Hays, KS. Pat's business grew quickly and soon became his full-time job!
Fast-forward many years and products later to 2020, when Pat announced he was retiring. I think many people were shocked and wondered what would happen. That is when Chris and Dana Schumacher stepped in and purchased Pat's Beef Jerky! As soon as I heard Chris and Dana were purchasing Pat's, I was beyond excited. Chris and Dana grew up in Hays, and like the rest of us, they grew up with Pat's Beef Jerky!
It wasn't just that Pat's Beef Jerky would still be available that made me excited. You see, years ago, Chris began Shorty's BBQ, and he quickly became known for his mastery of flavors and cooking great food! Dana grew up with parents who were entrepreneurs, so I knew that between the two of them, it was going a perfect fit! Chris running the back of the house and Dana running the front! Chris and Dana have kept the traditional recipes that we all know and love, but I am really excited to see what they will create for new items as they grow Pat's Beef Jerky which I am sure they will!
On a recent trip home to Hays, KS, I decided to take a short trip to the Pat's Beef Jerky store in Liebenthal, KS. While the store in Liehenthal might not be big, you will be surprised how much you will find in Pat's Beef Jerky shop! It has been years since I went to the shop, but while I was there I took the opportunity to grab some of the items that currently can't be shipped like their brats and summer sausage. Then, I knew I wasn't leaving without a big bag of their beef sticks, some of Pat's Original jerky, and their new Purple Pat's Jerky label!
Dana and her family are K-State fans through and through, so it makes perfect sense that they would carry a special purple label jerky, and this K-State fan thinks it is awesome! I personally can't wait to grab some more of the purple label jerky. It is the perfect gift for K-State fans, because you know we love to show our purple pride!
