If you’ve ever dreamed of wandering through rows of apple trees on a crisp Kansas morning? If so, then Creekside at Fall Color Farms in Riley is going to become your new happy place. Tucked just off Highway 77, this family-run orchard is turning heads with its scenic charm and big dreams. The Howe family—Rose, Scott, and their kids—have been quietly (but busily!) building something special here, and it’s only just getting started.
You might know the Howes from their days running Howe Landscaping in Manhattan, KS, or from their tree nursery business, Fall Color Farms in Riley, KS, which supplies over 12,000 trees each year to landscapers and nurseries across the region. But now, with the help of a couple of their children, they’re adding a new chapter to the story: one that invites the community to enjoy the fruits of their labor—literally!
Creekside Orchard features over 2,800 apple trees planted across a beautiful 3-acre stretch of their farm. And we’re not talking just Red Delicious and Gala—this place is packed with fun-to-say, fun-to-eat varieties like Pixie Crunch, Zestar!, and Snapdragon. The Howes have carefully chosen apples that taste amazing and grow well here in Kansas, making your future apple-picking outings extra sweet.
While the trees are still growing in (it takes a few years to really get going), the Howes are building a space that will offer an experience to match. They’ve created a picture-perfect farm setting complete with a tire mountain, barrel train rides, and a creek running through the property—hence the name. It’s the kind of place you can imagine spending an entire fall afternoon, sipping cider slushies and snapping family photos with armfuls of fresh apples.
The soft launch of Creekside at Fall Color Farm in Riley, KS, will happen from July 11th to July 18th. I, for one, can't wait for the 11th and a chance to experience this new space! in Riley KS
Being a graduate of Kansas State University in the field of Horticulture Therapy, I am thrilled to see another family offering not only farm fresh produce, but also an option for education. The Howe family plans to work with schools to help our youth understand the orchard and Horticulture.
Whether you’re an apple enthusiast, a family looking for a wholesome weekend adventure, or someone who just loves supporting local farmers doing big things, Creekside is worth keeping on your radar. It's a love letter to Kansas roots, hardworking families, and the simple joy of growing something meaningful together.
