Homestead on Dogwood is located in Belvue, KS. Their mission is "back to basics" and on their farm, they produce high-quality meat, dairy, and a variety of baked goods!
I first discovered Homestead on Dogwood scrolling on Facebook. Seeing the sourdough bagels and bread caught my eye! I love sourdough so I am always on the hunt for great sourdough products. In addition to so many products being made of sourdough, the other part I loved was the delivery option!
My sister always teases me about my fondness for delivery options, but time is everything so I love the convenience. When I placed my first order I wanted to try a little bit of everything so I ordered, bagels, bread, sourdough bread crumbs, blueberry sweet rolls, cinnamon rolls, and a farm-raised chicken. In all fairness, while I would have ordered several items, we had company coming so I did get a few extra items!
The first thing I tried was sourdough bread because obviously, bread is life! The bread had that wonderful sourdough smell, a golden crispy crust, and just the right amount of chew! There are so many options when you order from Homestead on Dogwood, it was tough to choose, but my second choice was a Jalapeno Cheddar loaf of sourdough and it was delicious.
If I hadn't devoured the loaf, I know it would have made some amazing grilled cheese sandwiches! All the bread at Homestead on Dogwood is made with a naturally leavened sourdough starter, if you want to try your hand at making your own, you can even buy starter from Homestead on Dogwood!
Next up, the sweet rolls for breakfast! As I mentioned, I ordered both Blueberry and Cinnamon rolls, both were delicious, but the blueberry rolls were extra! I love blueberries and this was something I had never had before. The richness of the icing and bread was perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the blueberries, 10/10 highly recommend it!

Then, it was bagel sandwiches for lunch, and just like everything else they were delicious! The chewiness that you are looking for in a bagel, these had. There was no skimping on the flavors or toppings, we really enjoyed them!
There is a distinct difference between buying a chicken that was raised on a farm and one you buy in the grocery store. The chickens that the owners of Homestead on Dogwood are moved twice a day and are allowed to graze from the bountiful nutrients of the Flint Hills! We roasted this chicken, it was one of the best we have ever had. When you start with an amazing product the "cooking" part is that much easier!
Sourdough bread crumbs, I never knew I needed them in my life! They have made a fabulous topping for a variety of baked dishes and sauteed veggies, mixed with a little lemon zest, butter, and parmesan cheese on top of asparagus and you have a winner!
Homestead on Dogwood is located near Belvue, KS and their mission of back to basics is one I can 100% get behind! I look forward to ordering from them again, and even better, I hope to get over to Wamego, KS on a Weds evening! The Wamego Community Market is now open from 4:30 pm-7 pm in the Wamego Methodist Church parking lot, not only can you shop Homestead on Dogwoods products, but you can also find a variety of locally sourced goods!
