Growing up in a Volga German community I literally grew up with so much German food around me that I thought it was completely normal. I just assumed that everyone ate as we did. From bierocks to stuffed cabbage rolls to sauerkraut and all the amazing desserts and the most delicate of cookies, it was just what we ate. It wasn't until I was much older that I learned that this was not "normal" and that everyone's school lunches were not scratch-made by mostly women of German descent. Needless to say, we ate well, very well growing up in our schools!
My husband was stationed in Germany for many years and he definitely enjoyed his time there, especially the beer and food, from Doner kebabs to Schnitzel and everything in between he was a fan! Needless to say, when we heard about a new schnitzel restaurant in Riley, KS we were there the first chance we could.

The restaurant is simple after you walk in, you get in line, and wait your turn at the serving station. You can pick from bratwurst, half-roasted chicken, or of course, schnitzel for their protein options. Then continue choosing from a variety of cooked cabbages, veggies, spaetzle, German salads, gravies, and more!
The Schnitzel was just like the Schnitzel I grew up with, crispy on the outside and tender pork on the inside. Their spaetzle, which is one of my favorite things in the world was delicious! In fact, I already have my next meal planned, Spaetzle with roasted chicken and gravy over mashed potatoes! This is no surprise to anyone who knows me that I am planning a carb-on-carb second meal.
As a self-proclaimed, connoisseur of sauerkraut, I absolutely loved theirs! The cooked cabbage and bacon were so good, that I could have eaten a bowl full of it. The red cabbage was also good, but the sauerkraut was my favorite!

The atmosphere features communal seating with several benches and tables. Tapestries are hung and there is a wall filled with cuckoo clocks which is charming and a fun touch! After all, if you go to Germany or any household that has been to Germany, you are most likely going to find a cuckoo clock on their wall!
To keep up with their hours, you will want to follow Schatzi's Schnitzel haus here! To my understanding, catering is still their main focus so the hours are dependent on availability and staffing so make sure you plan accordingly!
