The what and the why!

Welcome to Purple Iris Everywhere!

I moved here in 1998, which is crazy to write. I met my husband in 2006 when he was stationed at Fort Riley and the rest, as they say, is history. We live with our two dogs who entertain us daily. Like most of you, we enjoy spending time with our family, friends, and finding a good binge-worthy series!

Starting this has been on my to-do list for a while now and what better time to tackle your to-do list than during a pandemic! With a little extra time on my hand’s one big goal is coming off the list. Start a Blog!  Some might not be so sure, but what better time to celebrate and share what you love?

We don’t call the place Manhappiness for anything! When I tell people where I am from, they, of course, think Manhattan, NY.  My husband is originally from Upstate New York, you can imagine their initial confusion.  After we clarify we are from “The Little Apple,” not “The Big Apple,” I find myself inundating them with all things Manhattan! Most of the time they end up telling me that they will have to take a trip here. Trust me, I have no problem fooling myself into thinking that they totally will!

As a local REALTOR, I get asked by clients where I like to eat and what are some fun things to do in the area. I always thought it would be great if there was an online resource to direct them to from a local perspective. Well, I am a local, so what better perspective? I didn’t want something just for their initial trip here, but also for after they move here, a mini-bucket list of sorts.

Cooking is how I decompress from the day. From my grandmothers to my parents and so many people in between, I do believe that food feeds more than the body, it feeds the soul. Sometimes that soul needs a greasy cheeseburger and sometimes it really needs a salad and I am here for it all of it.

This also seemed like a great way to share both my and my family’s recipes all in one spot.  Selfishly, I also thought it would help my husband. He loves to say things to me like, can you make that salad thing with the steak again? Uh, which salad thing with the steak? You get where I am coming from, right?

Finally, when I find something amazing. I want to share it! Back to that sharing thing again. I am a devotee to random ads purchases (I am looking at you Threadtank), subscription boxes, and of course, the mother of them all, Amazon! When I find something good, I want everyone to know about it!

I hope you enjoy the site and if you have something that I need to check out or a recipe for me to try, send it my way! I am more than happy to give it a whirl, except if it has raw tomatoes. I am out, it’s the jelly stuff in raw tomatoes, I can’t get down with that!

Thank you for stopping by and best wishes to you all!

Tara
