The Veterans Day Parade in Manhattan, KS is the largest celebration honoring Veterans in the State of Kansas!

If you live in Manhattan, KS you probably already know how much we appreciate those serving in all branches of the armed forces. Having a military installation so close allows you to have an insight into the true sacrifices of our veterans and their families. From Junction City to Manhattan and on to Wamego, you will find several Veterans Day Activities throughout the day.

Every year, the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition in conjunction with Fort Riley, Kansas State University ROTC, the USO, and other organizations holds the Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Manhattan, KS. Veterans Day in Manhattan, KS is the largest celebration in the State of Kansas!

The parade starts at the Manhattan Town Center at 9:30 am on Nov. 11th. The Veterans Day Parade continues down Poyntz Ave., to Manhattan City Hall where you can watch the ceremony honoring all Veterans! All activities will pause at 11 am.

The Veterans Day parade in Manhattan, KS, will last an hour. Participants in the parade range from the local schools, bands, and local businesses to the Generals Mounted Color Guard, Fort Riley Color Guard, Fort Riley Soldiers, the Fort Riley Band, and more, which are very unique to this parade!

Every year, the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition holds two contests. A Veterans Day poster contest for grades 3-6 and for grades 7-12 a Veterans Day Essay Contest. Throughout the year, you can also find the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition doing amazing things in the community, from volunteering their time to providing scholarships to local students!

In addition to the parade, you will also find many neighborhoods and businesses displaying Old Glory to honor those who served. Every year, it takes my breath away. Then I think about the quote by Calvin Coolidge, "No person was ever honored for what they received. Honor has been the reward for what they gave." So to all the Veterans, on this 11th day of the 11th month, we honor you!
