Perfect for a weekend escape, day trip, or spontaneous Sunday drive.

Wamego, KS (25 minutes)

Small town charm + big personality. Wamego is famous for its Wizard of Oz Museum (yes, really), a vibrant downtown, and delicious dining options. If you visit in July, especially on the 4th of July, you will quickly learn why Wamego, KS, is also nicknamed "Boomtown!"

  • Bonus: Great spot for fall festivals and holiday lights

Alma, KS (35 minutes)

This one’s for the cheese lovers. Alma is home to the Alma Creamery, where you can sample and stock up on locally made cheeses. It’s a cute little town with Flint Hills views and friendly faces.

  • Don’t miss: Alma Creamery, vintage shops, scenic drives

Abilene, KS (1 hour)

A slice of Americana, Abilene is rich in history and charm. It’s also the hometown of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The history in their downtown is wonderful, and many enjoy the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo during the summer.

  • Don’t miss: Eisenhower Presidential Library, Old Abilene Town, Greyhound Museum, and a ride on the historic steam train with family and friends for dinner.
  • Bonus: Great antique shopping!

Cottonwood Falls + Chase County (1 hr 15 min)

You’ll feel like you stepped into a painting. The downtown is quaint and historic, and the Flint Hills views are unbeatable.

Clay Center, KS (45 min)

This quick drive from Manhattan. Visitors can enjoy a donut at the famous Tasty Pastry, tour the many murals throughout town, or enjoy the Clay Center Zoo!

  • The Murals are seriously amazing, and you can check out the map on your phone to plot your trek.

Lucas, KS (2 hours)

Okay, it’s a full two hours, but totally worth it if you love quirky art. Lucas is known as the grassroots art capital of Kansas.

  • Don’t miss: Garden of Eden, Bowl Plaza (yes, it’s a toilet-themed public bathroom and it’s amazing), and local art galleries
