Aunt Kay's Hard Candy

Making homemade candy goes hand in hand with the holidays for our family. We have a few recipes, but this one was my Aunt Kay's. A fun tradition to start with your family, or a special treat to give as a gift!

Equipment

  • Heavy Saucepan
  • Candy thermometer optional
  • Candy molds or Cookie sheets

Ingredients
  

  • 3 3/4 c Sugar
  • 1 1/2 c Karo Light Syrup
  • 1 c Water
  • 1-2 tsp Cinnamon Oil Or flavoring of choice

Instructions
 

  • Mix the sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  • Stir until sugar dissolves. As soon as the sugar dissolves stop stirring.
  • Once mixture comes to a boil either insert candy thermometer or get a glass of water like in the recipe and test mixture until it is in the hard crack stage.
  • Then add the coloring and oil of choice and stir until combined.
  • Either pour mixture onto a baking sheet or into molds.
  • If pouring onto cookie sheets, follow directions on the recipe card.
  • Once the candy has cooled, either break apart or remove from molds and place into bags or container.
